May brought a mix of highly anticipated releases, special edition fundraisers, and some surprising movers in the disc golf market. From collectible runs like the McBeth 6-Claw Buzzz SS and Brodie Smith's Get Risky Zone SS to the massive success of the Nerf x Prodigy collaboration, several unique factors shaped this month's rankings. While special releases drove many of the biggest jumps, staples like the Zone, Luna, and PA-3 continued to prove why they remain favorites in players' bags. Let's take a look at the top-selling discs of May and the stories behind their rise up the charts.
1. Discraft Zone SS
May was a big month for the Zone SS as we saw the release of several colors of the Brodie Smith Get Risky Cryztal FLX Zone SS. It has been a popular disc all year, but this custom run with different color rarity has given it an extra boost. It is the perfect compliment to the Zone in so many players bags!
2-4. Nerf Putter, Nerf Midrange, Nerf Driver
The Nerf x Prodigy disc golf collab was very popular across the board in disc golf. It will be interesting to see how it develops outside of disc golf as I think the online retail side is more of a one time purchase than a staple in player's bag. I do think this will be very popular as it makes its way into big box stores and Amazon. We just won't be able to track that unless Prodigy releases some numbers.
5. Discraft Buzzz SS
The Buzzz SS has been trending up for a while now but this boost is due to the release of the McBeth 6-Claw run. This was initially dropped at Champions Cup and then on May 1st it had a general public release as a fundraiser for the World Championships this year. The collectability of the Claw Mark stamps helped boost this disc way up the charts.
6. Prodigy PA-3
The Prodigy PA-3 has always been a top putter in the market but this month the Hunter Thomas signature Fractal PA-3 released for the first time on our site. The PA-3 is unique in the way that it has a deep profile but puddle top giving it a shallow yet comfortable feel.
7. Discraft Luna
The Luna has seen a big turnaround this year. It was beginning to slide down the charts before AB started really leaning into it as a throwing putter which helped revive the popularity. Combine that with some special runs like the Cale Leiviska Victory Edition and the special Worlds fundraiser Luna and you find yourself in the top 10 yet again.
8. Discraft Zone
The Zone is probably the only disc in the top 10 that got here mainly because of how well the stock version moves. It has some special editions and stamps that help bump it up, but the heavy lifting is almost always because of the amount of people that regularly buy stock Zones. It is the best moving stock disc almost every month!
9. Innova Firebird
The Innova Firebird is here due to the restock of the Hunnerbird OS which is a special edition of the Halo Star Firebird. This disc is always very popular and we have a hard time keeping them on the shelves when they restock. The Firebird in general is one of the most popular overstable fairway drivers, but the boost from the Hunnerbird OS restock is what landed it in the top 10.
10. Innova Thunderbird
Rounding out the top 10 we have the Thunderbird which, similar to the Firebird, is here because of the restock of the Hunnerbird, a halo star Thunderbird. This is one of our top personality discs every year and the demand continues to rise as time goes on.
