Build a Disc Golf Bag for Less Than $50

Hunter Thomas |

One of the biggest draws to disc golf is how budget-friendly it is. Once you get your discs, 91% of all disc golf courses are free to play. This means that your only cost you need to get out and play is the discs. Your typical disc golf discs cost less than $20. I am going to help you build a bag for less than $50 that will get you ready to play any disc golf course in the world! If you are building your first disc golf bag, I recommend you check out our Beginner Disc Golf Buyer's Guide instead of this post.

The Putter

The base that every good bag is built on is a solid putter that can be used for throwing and putting. This is also going to be your cheapest disc in your bag as it is the only slot that is pretty universally used in a base plastic. Base plastic is the cheapest because it is the least durable. We choose this plastic for putters because they are thrown from the closest distance, typically fly straighter once beat in a little bit, and the plastic ensures a consistent grip for your most important shots on the course... putting.

Innova Aviar Putter

Innova Aviar

The Aviar from Innova is one of the most popular disc golf putters in the world. It provides a very straight flight and plenty of glide to stay in the air on the putting green. This is another great option because Innova's DX plastic is one of the most affordable on the market. The DX Aviar will take up $9.99 of the budget and accomplish everything you need on the course!

The Midrange

This is the most important slot in the bag. The midrange will be your workhorse on the course and quickly become the disc that you rely on the most out there. It will be very useful for driving off the tee, longer approaches, and scramble shots to get you out of the rough and back in to play. For this slot we are looking for a disc that will perform consistently in all conditions and give us a controllable, straight flight.

Discraft Buzzz

Discraft Buzzz

Similar to the Aviar, the Discraft Buzzz is the most popular midrange on the market currently. The Buzzz provides plenty of distance for a mid and has that neutral flight that we are looking for. It can handle plenty of shot types and power levels which makes it a great choice for everyone on the course. Picking it up in Discraft's Z plastic gives you one of the most durable plastics on the market and will take up $14.99 of our budget.

The Driver

Last but not least, we need a driver. This is mainly good to compliment the flight of the midrange and give us another option for some more distance off the tee. The goal here is to get a disc that will have some more fade than the mid without sacrificing too much control. This will also be important for forehand shots on the course as it will be much easier to accomplish this shot with a driver over the mid.

Discraft Underground

Discraft Undertaker

It is hard to beat out Discraft's Z plastic for it's price and durability so we are going back to it for the driver. The Undertaker is going to be a great choice as it offers a neutral flight that can still stand up to bigger arms on the course as well as forehand shots. This disc is the perfect compliment to the Buzzz and will have you shooting your best without breaking the bank!

Accessories

With about $10 left in the budget, you can either go back to throw in a second Innova Aviar to make practice putting a bit easier or you can add in some accessories. One good option that is not disc golf specific would be going to Walmart and getting a towel to carry with you. Only having 3 discs means that you are going to have to use the same ones for several different types of shots. Having a towel can help insure grip every time you throw.

Another option is to get a mini. The purpose of a mini is to mark your lie in the fairway before you throw your next shot so that you have the spot to throw from clearly defined. This is especially important when you want to use the same disc as you previously threw during a competitive round. A mini is not necessary, but as you get more competitive in disc golf, it will become very important to have in your bag!

Final Thoughts

Building a solid disc golf bag doesn’t have to be expensive. With just a reliable putter, a dependable midrange, and a controllable driver, you can confidently tackle any disc golf course without feeling under-equipped. This sub-$50 setup keeps things simple, versatile, and beginner-friendly while still offering room to grow as your game improves. As you spend more time on the course, you’ll naturally learn what additional discs or accessories fit your style, but this bag gives you everything you need to get out there and start throwing with confidence.
