One of the most important shots in disc golf is the dead-straight, controlled midrange. It’s the shot you lean on when accuracy matters more than power, and having the right disc can make all the difference. After 7 years in the disc golf industry and testing just about every straight-flying midrange on the market, we’ve learned that not all “neutral” mids are created equal. In this article, we’re breaking down the 10 best straight midrange discs based on real-world testing, covering flat throwers, hyzer releases, beginners, and power players, so you can find the best dead-straight midrange disc for your game!
Best Straight Disc Golf Midranges

Discraft Buzzz
The Discraft Buzzz is really the gold standard in straight midranges. I will say the one key here is that you have a flat release. Players with a natural hyzer release might have better success with some of the other discs on this list. The Buzzz holds very true when thrown flat and will hold whatever line it is put on which is the ultimate test of a true neutral midrange!

Discraft Buzzz SS
The Buzzz SS is the more understable version of the above Buzzz. I like to call it the hyzer thrower's Buzzz. If you have a natural slight hyzer release, you will find that the Buzzz SS will flip up and fly dead straight down the fairway very similar to how the Buzzz does for the flat release players. Because so many pros have enough power to get this flight out of the Buzzz, the Buzzz SS goes unnoticed and under-appreciated by the general disc golf market

Innova Mako3
This is one of the most understable discs on this list but I still wanted to include it because I think it is one of the first discs that comes to mind when you think of a straight mid. If you throw mids over 300' then the Mako3 will be more of a hyzer-flip or turnover disc for you. If you are a newer player or find yourself getting midranges more to that 250-280 range, the Mako3 will be the perfect dead straight option for you!

Axiom Hex
The Hex took the straight mid market by storm a few years ago and has held that market share. The big thing that sets the Hex apart is how far it seems to fly straight down the fairway. It and the Buzzz are the two farthest flying mids on the market and they just happen to also be dead straight! The Hex is also very comfortable in the hand forehand but does require a bit more touch if you plan to use it that way.

Discmania MD3
The MD3 used to be more towards the overstable end of the spectrum but as it got retooled with the new Discmania Originals mold, it turned more into a go to straight option. The MD3 is similar to the Buzzz in that it is a great straight mid for flat throwers and power throwers. It is a good option for people that are looking to bag multiple of the same mid in this neutral slot. The MD3 does still start with a little bit of fade at the end of the flight but it is also one of the most forehand friendly options on the list.

Prodigy M4
The M4 used to be one of the most well known discs in this category but over the years as Prodigy's team has faded, so has the M4's popularity. It is still an incredible disc though! Because of Prodigy's naming style, people think that the M4 is going to be very understable. In our experience, it is not. It is actually a great option that is close to the Buzzz SS but with a little more torque resistance. If you want a disc that likes hyzer but can also handle being thrown flat for shot shaping, check out the M4!

Latitude 64 Compass
The Compass is extremely underrated. This disc is one of the straightest discs on the markets and provides players with an insane amount of control on the course. If you want a disc that you can rely on to go exactly where you throw it and hold whatever angle you put it on, you have got to try out the compass!

Dynamic Discs Truth
The Truth confuses a lot of people because there are two versions out there. First you have the one that we are talking about here which is just the "Truth". Then you have what is now known as the "Emac Truth" which is more overstable. Both are straight enough to be on this list but basically the Emac Truth is a retooled version of the Truth that makes it slightly more overstable and back to how the Truth originally flew. The Truth started out with a slightly overstable flight and then over the years of manufacturing, it became more neutral and understable which lead to the creation of the Emac Truth. So if you are looking for a dead straight option, try out the Truth!

MVP Reactor
The Reactor is almost like a Hex OS. It arguably is a bit too overstable for this list but I think that it falls close to the Buzzz where if you throw it flat and hard, it is going to be one of the straightest discs on the market. If you have a hyzer release or don't spin the disc much on your throws, this one is going to be a bit too overstable for what you are looking for. Everyone else will find this disc to be a great neutral option!

TSA Pathfinder
Last but not least we have the Pathfinder. This disc is extremely comfortable in the hand and accomplishes a dead straight flight. It is one of the most neutral mids on the market and is the perfect choice to round out this list. It does like a little bit of hyzer angle more than a flat release but once you hit your line, it will not veer off of it!
At the end of the day, the “best” straight midrange isn’t about hype, it’s about matching the disc to your release, power, and confidence. Whether you’re a flat thrower who loves the reliability of a Buzzz or Hex, a natural hyzer thrower who needs something like a Buzzz SS or Pathfinder to flip up, or a developing player looking for effortless straight flight from a Mako3, there’s a true point-and-shoot option out there for you. Every disc on this list earned its spot through years of testing, and any one of them can become the midrange you trust when the fairway demands precision over power.
